Copy Cat Rhodes Frozen Roll Dough

Picture

I love the convenience of Rhodes Frozen Roll Dough.  There are so many delicious things you can do with it.  Bundt pan Cinnamon Rolls, Scones & Fresh Hot dinner rolls are just a few of my favorite.  The one drawback is the price.

It has been a little cooler the last couple of weeks which has me craving Chili and scones.  It dawned on my why don’t I make my own “Rhodes Rolls Dough”.  I already have an awesome bread recipe so why not?

Bread Recipe:

In mixing bowl combine:
2 Cups warm water
1 Tablespoon yeast
1/4 cup sugar

let stand for 10 minutes until bubbly

Add:
1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
1 1/2  Teaspoons Salt
1 egg

Mix together and then add:

5-6 cups of flour

Once dough comes together in a ball and pulls away from the sides of the mixer.  Place in a greased bowl. let double.  Punch it down and knead for a few minutes.  Cut of a chunks of dough, roll into balls and place on greased cookie sheets.  Place in freezer until dough is firm.  Remove from cookie sheets and put in Ziplock bags.  These will be ready for the next awesome dish you will need them for.

To use:  Take desired amount out and place greased muffin tins or a baking pan.  Allow to thaw and raise. Brush melted butter on top to help them brown beautifully. Bake at 350 for 15-20 min.

If I am in a hurry in the morning and want to make scones.  I will take a few dough balls and microwave for 30 seconds.  When thawed I roll them out and fry them in vegetable oil.  Serve with fresh Jam and butter.

Just tried these tonight. We ate 1/2 fresh and froze the other half. It made about 28 rolls all together. They were better than Rhodes rolls! So moist and tender! Thank you for such a good recipe!
