Not your Mamma’s mac n’ cheese

Now that it is officially Fall. We are craving all kinds of comfort foods. This is an easy and delicious Mac n’ Cheese.  Like some of you, we grew up on Mac n’ Cheese from a box. This is definitely an upgrade.

Ingredients:

6 Tablespoons butter
2 Cups Milk
2 Cups Heavy Cream
1/2 Cup Flour
2 Teaspoons Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 Cup Cheddar Cheese – grated
1 Cup Jack Cheese- grated
1 lb Elbow Macaroni – cooked
Panko Bread Crumbs

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Grease a casserole dish, set aside.  Melt butter in a sauce pan over medium heat.  Add flour and cook 1 minute.  Slowly add the milk and cream, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add all seasonings then slowly stir in the cheese.  Once cheese is melted stir in the cooked macaroni.

Pour into prepared casserole dish.  Sprinkle cheese and panko bread crumbs on top. Bake until golden, about 30 minutes.
